When I came across my Great Grandmothers birth certificate it indicates that she was placed on the Foundling Wheel in Muro Lucano. She was born in 1889 & given the name Adelaide Buonavolonta. She is part of my Rendina Line. At the age of 8 she came to the US with her Mother & Mother's husband. Does anyone know if there is anywhere i could look for more information. Has anyone else come across a similar situation??

During WWII, my family and I lived in Muro Lucano as Internati Civili da Guerra along with a few other refugees.
I have only the best memories of the kind people that we had the pleasure to meet during this difficult time . I came back to visit Muro Locano in 1980 and was happy to greet old friends from the past.

My maternal Grandmother and Grandfather were born in Muro Lucano and emigrated to to NYC circa 1895. Family surnames were Zariello, Vitiello and Lenzi. They owned a farm in the valley and relinquished it to relatives in the 20s or 30s. Would love to find records.

Ciao J. Cerone, My grandmother was Vincenze Cerone, born in Muro Lucano in 1866. Her parents were Pasquale and Filomena Bastia. Vincenza married Giuseppe Logrippo in Muro Lucano and immigrated to the US (Chicago) in 1892. Please let me know if you have any information regarding Vincenza or Giuseppe. Thanks, Jim

My father was born in Muro Lucano. Some last names in my family tree from my dad's side are Ramundo, Barbieri, Ferracane, Bianchini, Diovisalvi, and Cerone of course. I wish there was more information I could find for my genealogy, everything is pretty much limited.

i contacted ottavio viglione in regards to birth information for vincenza scaringi, wife of giuseppe logrippo, married in muro lucano in 1831.all i have found on the internet(rootsweb)is a birth year of 1800.if someone out there has her 1831 marriage record to giuseppe logrippo,or her 1845 death record, her age at these events should be noted.this would give me an idea of approximately what year she was born in.as her birth was either just before 1800-or just after,it would only be found other in whatever parish was in muro lucano at this time.other than that, the best guess would be the ages noted in 1831 or 1845. thanks

Have seen some references to the names Scarengi and Nardiello. I had a great aunt named Rosa Maria Mureno (1868-1907) married to my great uncle, Michele Saracino (1863-1961). She was the daughter of Angela Maria Scarengi and Antonio Mureno. On our visit to Muro Lucano a couple of years ago, we met a Nardiello family who were our third cousins. If anybody sees anything familiar, please respond on this website. Ciao!

My great uncle Michele was one of the sons of Maria Donata Nardiello (1838-?) who was married to Giuseppe Saracino (1838-1873)

Antonietta:

On you visit in September where you able to find any info from Maria Cipolla? My son and I just discovered that my Great-Grandfather's name was Luigi Cipolla. His wife Maria Vincenza came to the United States around 1900. My grandfather his son Felice left Muro Lucano on the Alsatia in 1898 at the age of 15. What we are now trying to find out is if Luigi was also in Muro and maybe died their prior to Maria Vencenza his wife coming to the United States, as it looks like the son Felix came over with his sister but not his mother. This is leading us to believe the father Luigi may have stayed behind. We found Maria Vincenza in a 1910 census in Philadelphia living with her son and it shows she was a widow. She died in 1935 at the age of 77. She was born around 1858, so I am thinking Luigi was probably born in and around the same time. However, I can not find a record of him living here at all. Any info is appreciated.

HI Antonietta

I am so excited I would think Maria Cipola might be a key to my family history. I will gather what information I have and see if any pieces may fit. My great grandmothers married name was Maria Vincenza Cipolla, her son Felice Cipolla was my grandfather. My grandfather Felice left Muro Lucano on the Alesia in 1893. He was born in 1877. He had a brother Michele who left Muro Lucano on the Alsatia in 1898. He too was around 15 when he left. They came to Philadelphia, Pa. As I mentioned I don't have the name of Felice's father my great grandfather. I do have a feeling that he might have never left Muro Lucano.
My great grandmother from what Pa census records I have show her here alone and I widow in 1910 census. She was born around 1856. I did find a ship manifest with a Maria Cipolla who left Muro Lucano on the Noord America in 1903. Ages match and she was traveling alone so that is what leads me to believe that my great grandfather (?) may have died in Muro Lucano. Is there a church that may have family records?
I also found a Rosa Cipolla, born around 1874 who married a Vincenzo Crusco born around 1869 they came here from Muro Lucano with my grandfather Felice in 1893. I was trying to find a marriage record of them and figured from that I could find her fathers name which would be my great grandfather but no luck yet. I figure they might have been married in Muro Lucano.
Thanks for the information and have a great trip back.

Hi Joe,
no sadly it does not, sadly it seems my paternal grandma, Rosalinda Zaccardo} left Muro Lucano ata young age, the story goes that she lost her husband, and moved away, so info on that side of the family is limited, but i am going to Muro Sep 2011, and, i do know some of the very very older folks there, i can ask around for you..
Just shoot out some of the questions you would like me to ask..

Family names associated so far with my Grandparents are Domenica LaGrossa married to Felice Cipolla, Vincenzo Crusco married Rosa Cipolla Felice Cipolla's sister. I am trying to find a marriage documentation of Rosa and Vincenzo which might show Rosa's fathers name. I am trying to find my great grandfather Felice Cipolla but don't have a name. I feel he must have died in Italy as I found my great gradmother Felice Cipolla's mother buried in the United States her name was Vincenza but no trace of her husband, therefore I feel he must have died in Italy. I felt if Muro Lucano was their place of residence before coming over that maybe Vincenzo and Rosa were married in Muro Lucano and their would be documentation as to who Rosa's fathers first name was

Thank you for the information on how to reach Muro Lucano. Does anyone know if back the 1893 if this was a town that people put down as their last place of residence before leaving for the U.S. My grandfather Felice Cipolla shows that he came over on the Alesia in 1893. He put his last place of residence as Muro Lacano. I don't know if he really lived there or if people leaving Italy left from the town of Muro Lucano and just used it as their last place of residence.
